MH bannings started over 4 years ago. There was a mass banning for maphack last summer, around Aug 1st.

There was another one almost precisely a year before, 3 days into the ladder. A lot of the big shot clans and rushers and longtime should-have-known-better's got caught in the cathouse on that one. The biggest ban was probably in the late spring of 2003. I believe this was the first ban.

It occurred about a year after the xxxx program included showing people's equipped items. We had 3 of the top 10 on the classic ladder get wiped, including a lvl 98 zon and 97 necro. Sadly, the mh bannings are mostly motivated by greed on Blizzard's part. Many of the mh's are also running bots while afk or sleeping to mf and exp. This was costing server space and $$. If Bliz was really interested in 'honesty' they would have done more to rid dupes and teach the act5 cheaters a good lesson. But it's a lesson in greed, not honesty.

Are you suggesting that the only map hackers that are banned are those that are using also bots? The use of Map Hack is significantly more rampart than the use of botters. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Blizzard's gone overboard with trying to tackle this problem, but I do not think they should either. As much as the next person, I would love to have a hack-free game, but how difficult is this request?

I find it really amusing that their apparent inaction is classed as greed when it could instead be simply a lack of resources. Blizzard's shown D2 alot more attention that I expected them to 3 odd years ago, and it's still going strong. There's also been talk on the bnet forums about a continual ladder reset every 6 months. So that is not purely for botting as the botters werent even up and running then, at least not in the numbers they were later on. I think they tend to react to large scale problems that affect the game play, also they take there time sorting out problems probably due to lack of manpower and the attitude of making sure you dont cause other problems.

The 2 main problems on this ladder have been public lod dupe methods, once every man and his dog knows how to dupe and it is done mainly by causing server lag, the game becomes unplayable because virtually every server is lagged. Mh have been consistantly banned all ladder only the light versions with a quick reveal seem to stay out of bans for most of the ladder. A number of months ago, someone suggested that Blizzard should incorporate a legitimate means of revealing an act - say a new scroll, perhaps even complete with a tome for them that reveals the map of an act.

Since I prefer to MF, and even my PvP builds typically spend more time PvM I would welcome the time saved from being able to reveal the map. Banning accounts, and/or cd keys only 3 days into a season is quite the opposite of a deterrent. Nobody had any real time invested at that point, and with the cost of a replacement CD down to $10.00 at most places (for those even worried about going that route for their key) there was nothing lost other than perhaps a clever name for the character/account that many had been using. The vipers hit much harder (and typically mana burn in hell) - but the point for me was that it would be very nice to reveal the map in an act for MF purposes (where one traditionally would desire to hit the same series of bosses rapidly time after time) - for WW barbs, easy/quick MF bosses are traditionally boneash, fire eye, and travincal quite simply because one doesn't have to look for them, they're all in essentially the same spot plus or minus a 1/4 screen away every time. It certainly would make me more prone to MFing the lesser known bosses, such as what's his face in the flayer dungeon, and/or in some of the tunnel spots that are often completely ignored in act 2.
